Country Background

Kazakhstan joined the IsDB on 30 November 1995. Its share in total subscribed capital of IsDB is ID 54.0 million with paid-up capital of ID 6.0 million. It is also a member of ICD and ICIEC.

Kazakhstan is an upper-middle-income country with an investment grade rating from major rating agencies. It is ranked as the 9th largest country in the world as well as the world's largest landlocked country with a population of 18.6 million. It has a territory of 2,727,300 km² and the largest OIC member country in terms of land size. The neighboring countries are Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. A significant part of the Caspian Sea forms the rest of the border.

IsDB Group Member Country Partnership Strategy (MCPS)

The IsDB Group Member Country Partnership Strategy had been implemented in the country during the period 2012-2015. The Bank has also signed a Partnership Framework Agreement with the Government of Kazakhstan in May 2014, at par with the other IFIs (WB, EBRD and ADB), under which the IsDB approved new projects in the period of 2015-2017. In the coming years, the IsDB Group plans to process the second MCPS to adapt its activities with the developmental needs of the country.
