Kazakhstan and IsDB Group Mark Strategic Partnership Milestone as Group Chairman Receives Order of Dostyk

Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, 2 July 2026 – H.E. Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser, Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank Group, participated in the 38th Plenary Session of the Foreign Investors’ Council, chaired by H.E. Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, at the Palace of Independence in Astana.

During the session, H.E. President Tokayev announced the admission of the IsDB Group as an Observer to the Foreign Investors’ Council and highlighted the growing role of Islamic finance in supporting sustainable economic development.

The announcement marks an important institutional milestone in Kazakhstan–IsDB Group cooperation and opens new opportunities to deepen dialogue on investment mobilization, private sector development, Islamic finance, digital transformation, and long-term economic diversification.

Held under the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Digital Sovereignty: Developing national technological ecosystems in Kazakhstan,” the Foreign Investors’ Council brought together senior government officials, international financial institutions, and private sector leaders to discuss Kazakhstan’s future-ready growth agenda and the development of national technology ecosystems.

On the sidelines of the Council, the Republic of Kazakhstan conferred the Order of Dostyk, Second Class, upon H.E. Dr. Al Jasser, underscoring the depth of the longstanding partnership between Kazakhstan and the IsDB Group and the shared commitment to advancing sustainable development cooperation.

Following the ceremony, H.E. President Tokayev met with H.E. Dr. Al Jasser at the Palace of Independence. The meeting reviewed the longstanding cooperation between Kazakhstan and the IsDB Group and identified strategic opportunities to further strengthen the partnership in alignment with Kazakhstan’s national development priorities, with a focus on high-impact sectors.

H.E. Dr. Al Jasser reaffirmed the IsDB Group’s commitment to supporting Kazakhstan’s national development agenda through results-oriented cooperation, stronger resource mobilization, effective delivery, and sustainable outcomes for communities across the country.

Since Kazakhstan joined the Islamic Development Bank in 1995, cooperation between the two sides has continued to expand. IsDB Group cumulative approvals in Kazakhstan now exceed US$4.24 billion, reflecting the depth of the partnership and its growing role in supporting Kazakhstan’s development priorities.

The IsDB Group is working with Kazakhstan to advance cooperation through the forthcoming Member Country Partnership Strategy, with a focus on sustainable infrastructure, transport connectivity, water security, economic diversification, private sector development, Islamic finance, and human capital.
