Bangladesh joined the IsDB on 12 August 1974 as one of its founding members. The first IsDB operation in Bangladesh was undertaken in March 1977 and the most recent project was signed in April 2018. Its share in subscribed capital is ID 510 million (1.01% of IsDB total subscribed capital). It is also a member of all the IsDB Group Entities (ICD, ICIEC, ITFC, ISFD and IRTI). Among 57 member countries, Bangladesh is currently the largest beneficiary of IsDB Group financing.
Bangladesh emerged as an independent and sovereign country in 1971. With nearly 163.2 million (2017) inhabitants on a landmass of 147,570 square kilometers, it is among the most densely populated countries in the world. The majority (over 88%) of the people are Muslims and over 98% of the people speak Bangla.
