Strengthening Cooperation between Syria and IsDB to Support Economic Recovery

Washington D.C., United States, 24 April 2025 - In a significant demonstration of the strategic partnership between the Syrian Arab Republic and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, Mr. Mohammad Yusr Barniyeh, Minister of Finance and IsDB Governor for Syria, has met with H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, Chairman of the IsDB Group.

The meeting was also attended by H.E. Dr. Abdelkader Husrieh, the country’s Governor of the Central Bank and Alternate Governor to the IsDB.

The discussion took place on the sidelines of the ongoing Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.

During the meeting, both parties explored methods to strengthen bilateral cooperation in support of Syria's economic recovery efforts, addressing the challenges and the increasing development needs that the country currently faces.

Dr. Al Jasser reaffirmed IsDB Group’s commitment to supporting Syria’s journey toward economic recovery by implementing streamlined and responsive financing mechanisms that align with national priorities and enhance living conditions and essential services.

The two sides also examined opportunities for collaboration on crucial infrastructure projects, particularly in the energy, electricity, and healthcare sectors, which are essential to sustainable development and the revitalization of the national economy.

This meeting embodied a shared vision for embarking on a new phase of comprehensive economic recovery, aimed at bolstering the capacity of national institutions to address challenges and fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people.
