IsDB «AAA» Rating Affirmed by S&P
The Islamic Development Bank’s “AAA” credit rating was affirmed with a “Stable Outlook” by S&P on the 6August 2026. The short-term issuer rating was also affirmed at A-1.
The affirmation reflects S&P’s view that IsDB will maintain its extremely strong financial position, underpinned by robust capitalization and liquidity and reinforced by the strong and continued support of its shareholders.
S&P highlighted the Bank’s strong policy importance, anchored in its focus on promoting economic development and social progress across member countries. S&P also acknowledged the planned growth in financing under the Bank’s new 10-year strategy, which builds on previous priorities by promoting inclusive growth, climate action, and strong partnerships among member countries, to strengthen delivery of its mandate.
S&P continued to recognize the Preferred Creditor Treatment (PCT) the Bank receives from its member countries. Notwithstanding the ongoing geopolitical tensions, IsDB has maintained a strong track record of fulfilling its mandate, a reflection of both the capacity and the willingness of the shareholders to provide support. S&P expects that any associated risks are further mitigated by the Bank’s well-diversified exposures, its conservative capitalization and strong liquidity position.
The IsDB remains amongst the most highly rated Multilateral Development Banks (MDB) and the highest in the Muslim World. The ‘AAA’ rating enhances the Bank’s capacity to mobilize external resources to fulfil its development mandate and play a leading role in development of the Islamic Finance Industry.
The Bank has been rated AAA by S&P since 2002.
