IsDB President and Turkmenistan Officials Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, 20 September 2024 – During his official visit to Turkmenistan, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), held a series of high-level meetings with key government officials. The discussions focused on strengthening Turkmenistan-IsDB cooperation in critical sectors such as healthcare, finance, and infrastructure, as well as advancing regional development initiatives.

In a meeting with H.E. Mr. Hojamyrat Geldimyradov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers responsible for Economy, Finance, and Banking, Dr. Al Jasser discussed expanding the partnership between IsDB and Turkmenistan. The talks centered on enhancing collaboration in finance and infrastructure development, with a focus on economic diversification. Both sides emphasized the importance of aligning efforts with Turkmenistan’s 2022-2052 national development strategy to foster sustainable economic growth. They also explored new avenues for expanding IsDB’s strategic operations in Turkmenistan, which covers projects in healthcare, telecommunications, and infrastructure.

Dr. Al Jasser also met with H.E. Mr. Myrat Mamedov, Minister of Healthcare and Medical Industry, alongside Mr. Rahimberdi Jepbarov, Chairman of the Board of the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs and IsDB Governor for Turkmenistan. The discussions focused on advancing key health initiatives aimed at improving the country’s healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality medical services. The leaders explored potential cooperation in developing medical schools and diagnostic centers to build a more resilient healthcare system. Both sides underscored the vital role of healthcare in achieving the aspirations of the leadership and people of Turkmenistan.

In another key meeting, Dr. Al Jasser held bilateral talks with H.E. Mr. Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The two leaders reviewed the longstanding partnership between IsDB and Turkmenistan and explored strategic regional initiatives aimed at promoting economic growth and stability. Among the topics discussed were key regional projects, including the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, which is expected to bolster economic development across the region. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening regional cooperation and aligning development efforts with Turkmenistan’s long-term vision for prosperity.

Throughout his engagements with senior officials, the IsDB President reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to supporting Turkmenistan’s national development priorities, focusing on healthcare, finance, infrastructure, and regional cooperation.
