IsDB Group Addresses International Conference on Peace and Trust: “The Role of Regional Economic Cooperation in Ensuring Sustainable Development"
Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, 19 March 2025 – The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group has attended the International Conference on Peace and Trust under the title: “The Role of Regional Economic Cooperation in Ensuring Sustainable Development.”
Held on 19 March 2025, in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan the conference aimed to foster dialogue among nations and the development community, promoting collaboration, peace, and trust, ultimately leading to sustainable development and the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The event featured a statement on behalf of H.E. Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of Turkmenistan, followed by an opening address from H.E. Mr. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan and National Leader of the Turkmen People.
The conference was attended by Cabinet Members, Ministers, Diplomatic Missions, Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), International Financial Institutions (IFIs), and leaders from the international business community.
The IsDB Group was represented by Mr. Ali Muhammad Khan, Head of the IsDB Regional Hub Almaty (Officer-In-Charge) who participated in the thematic session titled: “Participation of Financial Institutions in the Implementation of Economic Projects in Central and South Asia.”
Speaking on behalf of the IsDB Group, Mr. Khan expressed gratitude to the Government of Turkmenistan for its continued support and trust extended to the IsDB Group. He highlighted the long-standing cooperation with the country and the recent celebration of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s membership in IsDB.
The IsDB Group representative emphasized the importance of fostering cooperation and mutual understanding among nations to ensure sustainable development. He commended Turkmenistan’s dedication and efforts to contributing significantly to regional economic stability and sustainable development.
He further elaborated on IsDB Group’s mission to promote economic cooperation and inclusive sustainable development, provide financial and technical assistance, mobilize resources for development projects, and enhance trade and investment within and beyond the Group’s member countries.
Development cooperation between IsDB Group and Turkmenistan has grown substantially since 1994. The Government of Turkmenistan has praised the IsDB Group as the most active MDB in the country focusing on cooperation in different sectors including energy, transport, and telecommunication infrastructure development, especially the support for the TAPI gas pipeline project and other regional projects that bolster sustainable economic growth and connectivity across the Central and South Asia region.
