US $805m financing from IsDB to boost the economy of seven countries in Africa and Latin America

<p>Washington DC, United States 15 October 2017: The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has signed US $805 million agreements with seven countries in Africa and Latin America. The agreements cover several infrastructure projects in energy, housing, agriculture and water supply in order to boost the economy of these countries. The beneficiary countries are Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Tunisia and Suriname.</p>

<p>Dr. Bandar Hajjar, IsDB President along with the finance ministers of the beneficiary countries signed the agreements during a special lunch organised by IsDB in honour of the members of the Board of Governors, on the sidelines of the World Bank Group Annual Meeting in Washington DC.</p>

<p>The distribution of the financing is as follows:</p>

<ol>
<li>Côte d'Ivoire: US $265 million for the Cocody Bay and Vocational Training Projects</li>
<li>Mali: US $166 million for a power plant project in Sirakoro</li>
<li>Senegal: US $138 million Promoville housing project</li>
<li>Guinea: US $ 16 million rural water supply project</li>
<li>Burkina Faso: US $ 104 million power plant project</li>
<li>Tunisia: US $ 80 million agricultural project and</li>
<li>Suriname: US $35 million affordable housing project</li>
</ol>

<p>"These infrastructure projects will go a long way in addressing the development challenges of our member countries. They would greatly contribute in creating employment and providing an enabling environment for the growth of the public and private sector. IsDB believes that every citizen in our member countries deserves to live a life with dignity. I look forward to more constructive engagement so that together we can build a prosperous future for our people," Dr. Bandar Hajjar stated.</p>
