US $266 Million Worth of IsDB-funded Water and Rural Integration Projects in Azerbaijan Near Completion

As US $266 million worth of IsDB-funded water and rural integration projects in Azerbaijan near completion, a senior delegation led by Mr. Salah Jelassi, Regional Manager of the IsDB Regional Hub Turkey, visits the country to get a first-hand account of the progress made.

Baku, Azerbaijan, 28 February 2020 – A senior delegation led by Mr. Salah Jelassi, Regional Manager of the IsDB Regional Hub Turkey, visited Azerbaijan on 24 – 28 February 2020 to get a first-hand account of the progress made in the ongoing projects funded by the Islamic Development Bank in the country.

The mission team also comprising Wahyu Wijayanto (Operations Team Leader), Hammad Hundal (Country Manager), Aykut Iscanoglu (Field Disbursement Officer) and Tamerlan Taghiyev (Field Representative) visited the project sites for “National Water Supply & Sanitation Program in 6 Regions” where the Bank is providing US$ 200 million financing whose overall progress stands at 99.5 percent.

The mission also visited Yevlakh region where the “Integrated Rural Development Project” is under implementation. The Bank is providing US$ 66.4 million financing to improve the agriculture production in more than 85,000 Ha of farmlands. The physical progress stands at 91 percent and it is expected that the project reaches final completion by December 2020. 

The mission from IsDB Group Regional Hub Turkey also held a one-on-one meeting with the farmers and local end-users of the projects in the regions to get updates on the progress and to take into account their inputs and recommendations.

In a separate meeting, the initiative from the country’s Ministry of Economy regarding Technology Advancement 4.0 and their request for the Bank’s participation were also discussed with the office of IsDB Governor for Azerbaijan at the premises of the Ministry of Economy.

Furthermore, the delegation also held several technical sessions with the State Agencies in Azerbaijan, including AZERSU; the Agency for Agro Credits & Development which operates under the Ministry of Agriculture; the State Agency for Small & Medium Enterprises; the Azerbaijan International Development Agency; and the State Housing Development Agency.
