Niger President Lays Foundation for IDB-funded Wakf Project
President of Niger, Mahamadou Issoufou laid the foundation for an IDB-funded Wakf building project at a ceremony attended by dignitaries including Speaker of the National Assembly, H.E. Hama Amadou, the Prime Minister, H.E. Brigi Rafini, Chairman of the Niamey City Council, Mr. Oumarou Dogari’s, other cabinet ministers, heads of institutions and personalities. The income from the project is expected to support the financing needs of the Islamic University, Niger.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali, Chairman of the IDB Group, who, earlier attended the IDB Day in Niger, commended the revival of the institution of Wakf in Niger, which is a tradition of the Prophet Muhammad and stated that projects like these are an expression of solidarity of the people of the country and important for the sustenance of institutions such as the Islamic University.
Senior Minister of Planning and IDB Governor H.E. Amadou Boubacar Cisse commended the IDB and the projects it has so far financed in Niger. He lauded the Chairman of the IDB Group for his dedication to the development of Niger.
The Minister called for the revival of the institution of Wakf and its adaptability to the present situation and added that the CFA 13 billion project is fully in line with the socio-economic objectives of the government of Niger.
