Islamic Development Bank supports Senegal with investment in innovative rural road construction
The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has granted Senegal a loan of EUR 17 million (equivalent of CFA francs 11.2 billion) for the construction of rural roads supported by using soil stabilization technology. The overall cost of the project is estimated at EUR 20.42 million.
The announcement was made in Dakar during the signing ceremony of an agreement between the IsDB and the Government of Senegal, represented by Senegal’s Minister of Economy and Finance Amadou Ba and President of the IsDB Group, Dr. Bandar Hajjar.
This agreement is one of many investments made by the IsDB and clearly paves the way for the continuation of the partnership with the Government.
This particular project aims to test the soil stabilization technology of the Malaysian company PROBASE, to provide Senegal with innovative and sustainable transport infrastructure in rural areas.
More specifically, the project will enable the construction of 52 km of rural roads in the Thiès, Diourbel and Kaolack regions, supporting not only better connectivity, but also create new job opportunities.
Thee company PROBASE offers a 10-year warranty that will cover all types of construction defects, as well as periodic and preventive maintenance. Immediately upon completion of the road development, the company will put in place a maintenance team, as well as provide 10-year warranty period.
The rural road construction pilot project with soil stabilization technology is an example of the South-South transfer of expertise and technology known as "Reverse Linkage" promoted by the Islamic Development Bank.
