IsDB Delegation Participates in the 22nd Meeting of the GCC Joint Committee for Determining Yemen’s Development Needs
A delegation from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), led by the Special Adviser to the President Eng. Mohammad J. Alsaati and Eng. Faisal H. Al Jehani, OTL-Country Operations GCC & Yemen, participated in the 22nd meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)’ Joint Committee for Determining Yemen’s Development Needs. The meeting took place at the GCC General Secretariat headquarters in Riyadh, bringing together representatives from GCC member states, Government of Yemen, IsDB, Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and GCC General Secretariat. The Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen (SDRPY) and King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) also participated in the meeting.
The meeting was chaired by Kuwait, the current GCC presidency, represented by H.E. Ambassador Hamad Al-Meshan, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development and International Cooperation of Kuwait. Representing Yemen was H.E. Dr. Waed Bathib, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation.
Discussions centered on Yemen’s pressing development needs, with a strong emphasis on food security. The committee also reviewed a series of urgent projects in key sectors that have been assessed by UNDP. Speaking on behalf of the GCC General Secretariat, H.E. Ambassador Sarhan Al-Muniker, GCC Ambassador to Yemen, reaffirmed the GCC’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with Yemen and international organizations to implement these projects and address the development priorities of the Yemeni people.
The IsDB delegation contributed with valuable insights regarding economic recovery strategies and in addressing and implementing sustainable development initiatives in Yemen, and reaffirming the Bank’s commitment to supporting Yemen’s stability and development through collaborative efforts with regional and international partners.
