Jeddah, KSA- The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) will do its best to provide support for Togo’s Mango-Dapaong Transmission Line Project of 161 KV. This was disclosed by Dr Ahmad Mohamed Ali, the President of IDB, during a bilateral discussion with Togo’s Minister for Energy and Mining, Mr Dammipi Noukpokou who was visiting IDB’s headquarters.
Dr Ahmad Ali stated that the Mango-Dapaong electricity project has a special priority for IDB because it promotes regional cooperation among IDB member countries. Dr Ahmad Mohammed Ali told the minister that he looks forward to enhancing the relationship between Togo and IDB, both of which enjoy special relationship. He extended his appreciation to the President of Togo for maintaining such rapport.
The Togolese Minister of Energy and Mining, Mr Dammipi Noukpokou told the President of IDB that the Mango-Dapaong Electricity Project has a lot of significance as it has a regional focus with benefit for neighboring countries like Benin and Burkina Faso.
“This project is a top priority for our government. We need the financing for it quickly”, said the minister. He added that the electricity project in the Northern part of Togo is a multipurpose project that will support other businesses in agriculture, health and education. He then extended the gratitude of Togo’s President HE Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé to the IDB.
The delegation from Togo also held separate discussions with the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC), a member of the IDB Group. The discussions focused on ITFC’s potential intervention in Togo to provide financing for the purchase of electricity from Ghana to benefit both Togo and Benin.
Togo joined IDB in 1998, and since then the Bank Group has approved US $233.7 million of project financing for the country.
