Dr. Sobir Komilov

Head, Regional Hub of Paramaribo

Sobir Komilov is the Regional Head for the IsDB Group Regional Hub of Paramaribo, joining the position in January 2018. Mr. Komilov oversees the Bank’s programs in Suriname and Guyana and leads policy dialogue with government counterparts, private sector, civil society, financial institutions and other development partners. Prior to this position, he was the Division Head for South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Latin America Region in the Country Department where he oversaw the Bank’s portfolio and programs in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Guyana and Suriname.

Since joining the Islamic Development Bank in 2008, Mr. Komilov has held positions as the Senior Economist in the Country Operations Department (Asia), the Country Manager for Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. From 2012 to 2014, he served as the Country Manager for Turkey and after his appointment as an Acting Resident Representative in Country Gateway Office in Ankara, he led caretaking functions to establish the first Country Office of IsDB Group in 2014.

Mr. Komilov holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Economics from the Sorbonne University (Paris 1). He also has an MPA (Master in Public Administration) degree from the Harvard Kennedy School and PhD in Economics from the National University of Uzbekistan.
