Jakarta, 7 October 2020 – The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Human Development Division of RSD and the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD) in close coordination with the Regional Hub Indonesia, along with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Indonesia’s Ministry of Finance, and KitaBisa - Indonesia’s leading crowdfunding platform hosted a National Introductory Workshop for CSOs on the Mapping Exercise.

The workshop aimed to introduce the “IsDB and ISFD NGO Empowerment for Poverty Reduction Program” to CSOs in Indonesia and its on-going mapping screening exercise while familiarizing them with the concept of crowdfunding both as general techniques of resource mobilization and the national context in Indonesia (regulatory framework).

The “IsDB and ISFD NGO Empowerment for Poverty Reduction Program” is an initiative that aims to lift people out of poverty with the help of CSOs as a network of developers. The IsDB, ISFD, UNDP, Indonesia’s MoF, and KitaBisa through its TADAMON community, special arm, Impacts Digital, believe that CSOs are on the ground and have more intimate understanding of development challenges in facing the most marginalized and hard-to-reach communities. Therefore, support towards CSOs is needed to create a more sustainable, extensive, and contextual development in Indonesia.

Indonesia out of 57 IsDB member countries is among the seven pilot countries of the CSOs mapping exercise in 2020. In a nutshell, the program will conduct capacity building workshops through TADAMON Community.

The workshop also announced that through the Crowdfunding Academy, 25 CSOs will be selected and provided with set of courses needed for their crowdfunding program. This capacity building will support CSOs’ socio-economic well-being to reduce poverty in Indonesia.

“Crowdfunding Academy is a course that is light in theory and perfect for CSOs who are looking to learn fundraising via digital media. In this program, participants will learn how to use social media to increase trust, writing content that engages donors, paid media to generate donations and using data to make a decision” explained Impacts Digital.

Besides, CSOs will also be able to join TADAMON to help them gain visibility and access to network as well as funding.

This dedicated crowdfunding program for local CSOs is forged under the workstream of IsDB, ISFD, the Islamic Finance in UNDP Indonesia’s Innovative Financing Lab and works to innovate financing instruments in order to close the development financing gap and accelerate SDGs attainment in Indonesia.

Moreover, a dedicated talk show was organized during the seminar to discuss the opportunity and challenges transforming crowdfunding through innovative financing and the use of technology.
