IRTI and BAZNAS Organize Training on Zakat

The Islamic Research & Training Institute, an independent entity of the Islamic Development Bank Group, and BAZNAS (Indonesia National Zakat Agency) organized a zakat management training entitled “Issues in Collection and Distribution of Zakat Fund” in Jakarta on 5-7 April 2017. The training aimed to identify issues in zakat collection and distribution as well as the proposed solutions. Approximately 40 participants including commissioners, officials and provincial representatives of BAZNAS and representatives of a number of zakat institutions in Indonesia attended in the training. The Chairman of Baznas, Dr. Bambang Sudibyo, presented the keynote address.

The facilitators of the training included Dr. Osman Babiker from IRTI and a number of experts from Indonesia and Malaysia, including the managers the two biggest zakat management institutions in Malaysia.

The participants identified several important issues related to the zakat management today, including agreement of ulemas on zakat, the existence of zakat mal for professionals, standardization of amil capacity, and the initiative to establish a world zakat management association.

IRTI supports the capacity building of BAZNAS through series of workshops and trainings involving international and national resource persons.
