IDBG Supports the Renewable Energy for Indonesia 2016
The second Renewable Energy for Indonesia Conference 2016 (RE4I 2016) commenced in Jakarta on 6 December 2016. H.E. the Minister of Energy & Mineral Resources, Ignatius Jonan, officiated the conference. In his keynote speech, he emphasized that renewable energy business should not rely on the government’s special treatments such as subsidy and protection, the business should be able to compete with the conventional ones. He also said that the players in the business should look for opportunities in the eastern part of Indonesia, whose significant number of villages were still experiencing critical electrification.
IDB Group contributed as one of the conference’s official partners. In the panel discussion titled “Renewable Energy Funding Mechanism Forum: Crowding in Finance for Renewable Energy through PE and PPP”, IDB Group’s Senior Investment Officer, Jahanzeb Burana, presented the Group’s strategy in renewable energy with regards to public-private partnership (PPP) mechanism, with an energy project in Pakistan as the study case.
The Renewable Energy for Indonesia (RE4I) was held on 6-7 December 2016. It provided a platform for potential investors to understand the key development issues of investing in the Indonesia’s renewable energy sector; get updated on the market directions, opportunities and economic priorities of the Government of Indonesia at the same to build potential business networks with the local authorities and industry players.
