UN and IDB Group to Coordinate Humanitarian Efforts
15.11.2011, Jeddah, KSA – Visiting UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Baroness Valerie Amos, on Monday met and conferred with IDB Group President Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali at IDB headquarters in Jeddah, KSA.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed humanitarian operations by both institutions as well as the programs underway for providing relief aid in some member countries including Somalia, Palestine, Yemen and Libya.
The senior UN official, at the meeting, touched upon the Organization’s willingness to coordinate international relief efforts and provide humanitarian aid in the framework of a global humanitarian system in a bid to achieve better results in humanitarian programs.
The IDB Group President for his part underlined the Bank’s preparedness to cooperate with the United Nations Organization to render aid to people affected by wars and natural disasters. Bearing in mind the ongoing plight of people in Palestine and Somalia, the meeting further saw the two sides propose designating the said two countries as grounds for mutual cooperation between the UN and the IDB Group for crystallization and implementation of joint development projects in the interest of both countries.
The meeting came in line with IDB Groups efforts in maximizing the ongoing cooperation with different global organizations and communities serving development efforts in IDB member countries.
