Toward a Greener Future: IsDB and Tarshid Collaborate to Construct an Environmentally Friendly Headquarters Building

Jeddah, July 6, 2023: The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and Tarshid have signed a an agreement to spearhead the advancement of environmentally friendly and sustainable construction practices at the IsDB headquarters. The agreement was signed  on July 13th 2023.

The signing was officiated by Dr. Mansur Muhtar, IsDB's Vice-President of Operations, and Dr. Tarek Zakaria Elabbady, Director-General of Corporate Services. Engr. Rashed Almehthel, Chief Operating Officer of Tarshid, played a pivotal role in sealing the agreement and the Distributed Facility Services (DFS) contract.

The collaboration focuses on the GREEN BUILDING program being piloted by IsDB,  which is closely aligned with Pillar 6 "internal activities" of the Paris Agreement. The initiative kick-started an energy retrofit project dedicated to evaluating and implementing coordinated energy-saving measures at the IsDB headquarters.

This ambitious project is undertaken in partnership with TARSHID, a prominent Saudi super Energy Service Company (ESCO). The venture combines the efforts of the Saudi Energy Efficiency Program (SEEP), local authorities, and esteemed international energy agencies. The success of these combined efforts has resulted in the creation of robust energy efficiency solutions in the Kingdom, leading to significant reductions in energy costs.

Working towards achieving LEED certification, a globally recognized symbol of sustainability and leadership, the collaboration aims to set a high standard for performance. Through this partnership, IsDB is committed to integrating sustainable elements and practices in its existing buildings and facilities, focusing on carbon emission reduction, energy conservation, waste minimization, water consumption reduction, and the prioritization of safer materials. This undertaking will lead to improved indoor air quality and natural lighting within the Bank's facilities, promoting a healthier and safer work environment for employees.

Tarshid's reputation as a leader in the development and enhancement of energy-efficient services in Saudi Arabia positions them as the ideal partner for this collaborative effort. The shared vision of both parties is expected to drive successful outcomes and achieve their mutual goals.

This collaboration not only advances IsDB's commitment to providing a conducive working environment for its staff but also aligns the institution's internal activities with the objectives of the Paris Agreement and the broader Sustainable Development agenda.
