The Islamic Development Bank Group will organize an investment conference in the Republic of Tatarstan, a republic in the Russian Federation. The conference will be opened by H.E. Mr. Mintimer Shaimiev, President of the Republic of Tatarstan. The President of the IDB Group, Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali, will attend the conference along with (117) businessmen and businesswomen from (23) IDB Member Countries. Public sector officials and heads of Federal Russian and Tatarstan bodies will be also participating in the conference.

The businessmen and women from Member Countries will explore investment opportunities in Tatarstan and learn first hand about the investment environment in the country. A trade fair will be organized on the occasion of the conference, exhibiting local products. The conference will be followed by visits to historic and cultural sites in the capital city of Kazan and its suburbs.

The IDB Group will charter a plane to transport the participants from Istanbul to Kazan.

This will be the first time that the IDB Group holds an investment conference in Russia which has observer status in the Organization of the Islamic Conference since 2005.

Previous IDB investment conferences were held in the Central Asian Republics (Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan), the Philippines,Indonesia, Malaysia, Comoros, Albania and Bosnia Herzegovina.

It is to be noted that Islamic Development Bank has been active in the Russian Federation since 1991 where it approved (30) projects for an amount of US$ 6 million in various sectors including education, health and awqaf properties in addition to emergency relief and reconstruction operations.
