Meeting with President Macky Sall, IsDB President Dr. Al Jasser Renews Commitment to Stand by Senegal in Its Development Drive
Dakar, Senegal, 24 January 2023 – On the first day of his official visit to the Republic of Senegal, Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) President and Group Chairman, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, met and conferred with His Excellency President Macky Sall of Senegal, on Tuesday, 24 January 2023.
President Macky Sall warmly welcomed IsDB President Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser at the presidential palace where the two sides reviewed the latest status of IsDB Group-financed development projects in Senegal and exchanged views over the prospects of further boosting the ongoing constructive cooperation, especially in transport, education, health, and agriculture sectors.
Lauding Senegal for its continued support for the Islamic Development Bank Group, Dr. Al Jasser stated that IsDB has proudly become the first partner of the country which is progressing well in its Plan for an “Emerging Senegal.” He then reiterated IsDB Group’s full support for the Republic of Senegal saying: “We are convinced that this visit will consolidate our position and strengthen the close ties of cooperation between Senegal and the Bank.”
Dr. Al Jasser is in Senegal attend the 2nd Africa Food Summit in Dakar. While in the country, the IsDB President is expected to hold separate high-level meetings with Senegalese officials, and also sign a memorandum of understanding with the Government on the new IsDB-Senegal Member Country Partnership Strategy (MCPS) for 2023- 2027. This new partnership strategy aims to provide practical solutions to the needs and priorities of Senegal as defined by the Government in its national development strategy, the Plan for an Emerging Senegal, and the priority action plan.
To date, IsDB Group has approved US$4.77 billion of development financing for Senegal’s different sectors and the Bank Group’s active portfolio in the country stands at US$ 3.26 billion.
