Media Advisory - Islamic Development Bank Group to Participate in UNCCD COP16 in Riyadh
Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 28 November 2024 - A High-level delegation from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, led by its Chairman, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, is set to participate in the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP16). The event will take place in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from 2 to 13 December 2024.
During the conference, H.E. Dr. Al Jasser will address several key sessions, participate in various side events, and hold meetings with ministers, senior officials from participating nations, global development leaders, and other key stakeholders.
UNCCD serves as the global voice for land and is one of the three major UN treaties, collectively known as the Rio Conventions, alongside those addressing climate change and biodiversity. This global forum will convene leaders and high-level officials under the theme "Our Land. Our Future." The landmark event aims to accelerate action on land restoration, drought resilience, and the green transition.
At COP16, the IsDB Group will host major side events at the Joint Arab Coordination Group (ACG) Pavilion in the Blue Zone and co-lead the Finance Thematic Day. The sessions will highlight the critical role of Islamic finance solutions in tackling climate challenges.
