Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 9 June 2022 - President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and Group Chairman, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, signed, today, in Riyadh, two donor contribution agreements in favor of the Afghanistan Humanitarian Trust Fund (AHTF), with  H.E. Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), and  CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), Mr. Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Marshad. Under the two agreements, KSrelief contributes US$10 million and SFD provides US$20 million in favor of the AHTF.

IsDB was entrusted by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to establish, operationalize and manage the Afghanistan Humanitarian Trust Fund according to the 17th Extraordinary Meeting of OIC Foreign Ministers, which was held on 19 December 2021 in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The signature of these two agreements represents an extension of the fruitful partnership between the IsDB and KSrelief and the SFD to achieve the noble goals of these institutions.

The Board of Executive Directors of the IsDB, in its 344th meeting held on 14th February, approved the establishment and operationalization of the Afghanistan Humanitarian Trust Fund, in accordance with the relevant IsDB procedures and regulations.

In this regard, the Fund’s Charter was signed by IsDB and OIC, on 21 March 2022, in Islamabad, on the sidelines of the 48th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC.

The Fund's strategy focuses on providing short and medium-term support for humanitarian interventions and the basic needs of the Afghan people in pursuit of stability and progress towards development.

As a result of the intensive consultations and meetings held by the core Fund team of the Bank with various bodies of UN agencies, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, local, accredited, and trusted civil society organizations, and regional, international, relief, and local development institutions working in Afghanistan, a proposed set of projects and programs have been identified in various sectors that the Fund will seek to achieve successively through the contributions provided by donors to the Fund.
