Islamic Development Bank to Participate at 77th U.N. General Assembly

Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 14 September 2022 - Vice President, Operations, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), H.E. Dr. Mansur Muhtar, will lead a high-powered delegation of the IsDB to the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on 16-24 September 2022.

During the UNGA sessions, the IsDB Vice President and his entourage will participate in the Transforming Education Summit (TES), the World Economic Forum (WEF), High-Level meetings of the 77th UNGA, as well as several side events taking place during the period.

As part of his team, Dr. Hiba Ahmed, the newly appointed Director General of the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD) the poverty alleviation arm of the IsDB Group, will jointly announce the launch of the Global Islamic Fund for Refugees (GIFR) with the UNHCR.   

Dr. Mansur Muhtar and members of the delegation will also engage in several bilateral meetings with high-level officials from the U.N. and those from IsDB Member Countries, including development partners such as the UNDP, UNICEF, UNCDF, and UNHCR.

Dr. Mansur Muhtar is a very experienced development practitioner who previously served as Executive Director on the World Bank Group's Board and co-Chair of the UN Inter-Governmental Committee of Experts on Sustainable Development Finance. He is a former Minister of Finance of Nigeria and once served as Executive Director of the African Development Bank, among other high-level positions. Kindly read his full profile here
