IsDB Vice President Addresses UN Crisis Response Group Meeting
Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), 22 May 2023 – Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Vice President, Dr. Mansour Muhtar, virtually addressed the Steering Committee of the United Nations Global Crisis Response Group on 22 May 2023 which centered on the Ukraine crisis.
During the meeting, IsDB Vice President Operations, Dr. Mansour Muhtar, appreciated the role played by the Group, under the leadership of UNSG and UNDSG, in addressing the global food crisis in volatile situations. He then underlined IsDB’s full readiness to share its experience with its Food Security Response Program (FSRP), financing maintaining a food resilience system and enabling technology-based agriculture practices to improve productivity.
For his part, Dr. Muhtar stated that food security raises concerns in member countries and remains on top of IsDB’s development agenda; a matter, which requires exploring other new platforms to see how well to put food security programs and initiatives in place.
The meeting provided an invaluable opportunity to jointly devise the strategic priorities and expected outcomes of the next steps of the Global Crisis Response Group to the Ukraine crisis (GCRG) to address escalating economic and financial impacts, including deepening debt, on food, energy, and the ability of the developing countries to undertake key transitions to achieve growth and sustainable development.
