IsDB Supported Zero Hunger Project in Burkina Faso Wins 2020 Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development
The Committee of the Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development, chaired by HRH Prince Abdul Aziz bin Talal bin Abdul Aziz, President Gulf Programme for Development (AGFUND)and Chairman of the Prize Committee, had its 22nd meeting on July 6, 2021, named a project from Burkina Faso as one of the category prize winners in 2020.
The project titled titled “Building Resilience to Recurring Food Insecurity Program”, in Burkina Faso won the 3rd category prize of US$ 200,000. The project is fully supported by the Islamic Development Bank and is currently being implemented by Ministry of Agriculture and Hydro-Agricultural Development.
The other category winners were; first category winner “Jersey Inka Nziza Project- Rwanda” which is implemented by Send a Cow Organization. The Second category winner “Seed of Hope-Seed Bank Project – Palestine” which is implemented by Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC). The fourth category went to “Nourishing the future generation through community-based supplemental feeding and family backyard gardening promotion from Philippines” which is implemented by Noemi T. Cabaddu.
The Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND) awards the Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development yearly with the goal of inspiring and supporting innovation and creativity in human development to a tune of US$ 1,000,000.
While the subject focus for the year 2020 was achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2 of zero hunger, this year focus will shift to climate action under the 13th goal of SDGs.
The Committee members include Her Majesty Queen Sofia – Executive President of the Queen Sofia Foundation and Honorary President of the Royal Board on Education and Care of handicapped persons, Mrs. Mercedes Menafra – Former First lady of Uruguay, Dr Muhammed Yunus, the Noble Peace Prize Winner and founder of Grameen Bank, Dr. Ahmed Muhammed Ali, the former president of the Islamic Bank Group, and Dr. Yusuf Sayed Abdullah, the former Director General of the OPEC Fund for International Development.
