IsDB President Pays Official Visit to Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 20 July 2022 - Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) President and Group Chairman, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, paid an official visit to Malaysia during the period 20-22 July 2022, the first of a kind since assuming office in 2021.
The visit was intended as a follow-up to a bilateral meeting between Dr. Al Jasser and Hon. Dato' Indera Mohd Shahar Bin Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Finance, during the recent 47th IsDB Annual Meetings in Egypt, held on 2-4 June 2022.
Dr. Al Jasser stated that he was visiting Malaysia given the strengthening of the already excellent relationships between Malaysia and IsDB Group and to reinforce the role of the IsDB Center of Excellence in Kuala Lumpur, which serves as a gateway between Malaysia and other IsDB member states.
The IsDB President also witnessed the MoU signing ceremony between the IsDB Center of Excellence, Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB), and Yayasan Waqf Malaysia (YWM) in undertaking a Feasibility Study on Awqaf sector in Malaysia. The main objective of the feasibility study is to assess and ascertain which primary business components and investments are the most beneficial and relevant for the envisaged Awqaf fund, leveraging on IsDB Awqaf Properties Investment Funds (APIF)’s business model and performance.
The IsDB Group Chairman also visited the Center of Excellence and The Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD) offices in Kuala Lampur. He commended the staff for their exemplary performance and encouraged them to extend their support and services to the member countries.
President Al Jasser also took the opportunity to pay a visit to Aerodyne Group, a global leader in drone technology, data technology, and digital transformation solutions which contributes to resolving development challenges and increased industrial productivity in various areas like health, and agriculture, and transport. He noted the importance of Malaysia in supporting member countries through IsDB’s reverse linkages platform which is a major capacity sharing initiative.
