IsDB President Confers with the President of Senegal
Bali, Indonesia, 16 November 2022– President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and Group Chairman, H.E Dr. Muhammad AL Jasser, met with H.E. Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal on the sidelines of G20 Leaders’ Summit in Bali. During the meeting Al Jasser expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the Government of Senegal for its continued support to the IsDB Group.
Dr. Al Jasser, also congratulated the President Sall for his efforts as Chairman of the African Union to officially join the Group of 20 nations providing the continent with another seat at the table. “By joining the G20, the African Union will be able to speak regularly to G20 partners”, he continued.
Senegal is among a handful of developing countries negotiating for a financing package funded by wealthy nations to help it transition to cleaner forms of fuel. It envisions clinching a deal modeled on what South Africa reached with the U.S., European Union, U.K. (United Kingdom), France, Germany, and several institutions to access $8.5 billion in the form of loans.
“I am pleased to inform you that I approved on 9 November 2022 Euro 80 million in favor of SONACOS Co. to finance groundnuts, groundnut oil, soyabean oil, and other food items. It falls under the ITFC's food security pledge and contributes to the IsDB Group food security package” Al Jasser told the President of Senegal.
