IsDB President Calls for Global Collaboration in Crafting Resilient Development Solutions

Rabat, Morocco 18 October 2023: In a compelling lecture at Mohammed V University in Rabat, the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser has drawn attention to the impact of global development challenges amidst contemporary uncertainties posed by the devastating impact of COVID-19 Pandemic, food insecurity and climate change.  He emphasized the need for  collaborative solutions, and the redoubling of efforts to build resilience.

Addressing the university community and chaired by University President Dr. Farid El Bacha, the lecture delved into economic complexities, environmental concerns, and educational empowerment amidst unprecedented crises.

"Amidst the profound implications of COVID-19, the Eastern European conflict, and climate change, cooperation becomes paramount. These challenges necessitate innovative solutions and shared efforts," stated the IsDB President.

The IsDB Group, known for its swift crisis responses, plays a pivotal role in providing relief to member countries facing natural disasters, conflicts, or health emergencies. "Our commitment to member countries goes beyond financial assistance; we stand as a beacon of hope, fostering positive change and cooperation," the President affirmed.

Founded in 1974, the IsDB Group's mission centers on fostering economic development and social progress while promoting the well-being of people in member countries and Muslim communities. The Group's multifaceted approach, encapsulated in its motto "One Group - One Goal," underscores collaborative efforts across its institutions.

"Education is central to societal progress. It empowers individuals and communities, paving the way for sustainable development," noted the IsDB President. The IsDB Group has invested significantly in education, exceeding USD 5.6 billion in over 1,000 projects across 57 member countries,  addressing inequality and empowering vulnerable groups.

On climate change and food security, the IsDB Group pledged substantial resources to finance climate-resilient projects. "We are committed to climate finance, aiming for at least 35% of our operations by 2025. Progress has been significant," remarked the President.

Morocco, a key IsDB ally, has received substantial support across diverse sectors. The IsDB Group's collaboration with Morocco is guided by the Member Country's Partnership Strategy (MCPS), emphasizing country ownership and selectivity. "Our partnership with Morocco is a testament to our shared commitment to economic transformation and social inclusiveness," the President stated.

The IsDB President reaffirmed the Group's dedication to sustainable and inclusive development. "We are actively working towards a world where prosperity, dignity, and opportunity are accessible to all," he concluded.
