IsDB Group Chairman Holds High-Level Meetings with Brunei Ministers to Advance Country Engagement Framework
Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, 6 October 2026 – H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, held separate high-level meetings today with H.E. Dr. Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah, Minister of Finance II and IsDB Alternate Governor for Brunei Darussalam; H.E. Dr. Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry; and H.E. Mohammad Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, Brunei Darussalam’s Minister of Religious Affairs.
During his meeting with H.E. Dr. Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah at the Ministry of Finance, the two sides discussed ways to advance the IsDB Group–Brunei Country Engagement Framework 2026–2028 and strengthen the mechanisms needed to translate its priorities into action.
They reviewed the role of the Joint Steering Committee and its three dedicated working groups in identifying suitable projects and initiatives. Particular attention was given to Islamic finance, food security, and small and medium-sized enterprises, in alignment with Wawasan Brunei 2035, the Twelfth National Development Plan, and the IsDB Group’s 10-Year Strategic Framework 2026–2035.

Later that day, H.E. Dr. Al Jasser met with H.E. Dr. Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, to discuss ways to support Brunei’s economic diversification agenda, including food security and small and medium enterprises.
The two sides also exchanged views on opportunities to enhance productivity, increase value addition, expand access to finance and leverage Sukuk. They emphasized the importance of identifying practical initiatives that can deliver tangible results under the new Country Engagement Framework.
H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser also met with H.E. Mohammad Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, Brunei Darussalam’s Minister of Religious Affairs, to discuss sustainable Islamic finance, a key pillar of the newly launched Country Engagement Framework.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment to advancing Awqaf development in Brunei Darussalam, with a focus on strengthening legislative and governance frameworks and optimizing the productive use of Waqf assets. Discussions also explored opportunities to leverage Sukuk and the Awqaf Properties Investment Fund (APIF) to support sustainable Waqf development and unlock the potential of Waqf assets.

The meetings underscored the shared ambition of Brunei and the IsDB Group to translating strategic alignment into practical cooperation. Launched during H.E. Dr. Al Jasser’s visit, the Country Engagement Framework is centered on promoting sustainable Islamic finance and private sector development and provides a structured platform for deeper engagement through 2028.
