IsDB Appoints Former Microsoft Chief Technology Officer as Director General, Corporate Services
Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 09 June 2023: The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tarek Elabbady as the new Director General Corporate Services. Dr. Elabbady brings with him over 25 years of extensive experience in software product development, advanced innovation, and leadership roles in the technology industry. The appointment was approved by the President of IsDB, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser.
Prior to joining IsDB, Dr. Elabbady served as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Microsoft's Digital Transformation Unit. During his tenure at Microsoft, he successfully led the digital transformation initiatives across various industries, fostering a culture of innovation and driving joint innovation efforts with key customers. His exceptional achievements and contributions have cemented his reputation as a visionary leader, connecting cutting-edge technologies to people's lives and ecosystems worldwide.
Dr. Elabbady's innovative mindset and commitment to technological advancements including the latest developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) have been instrumental in shaping the landscape of the industry. Among Dr. Elabbady’s notable accomplishments, include the invention of Medtronic Physio Control's groundbreaking fully automatic defibrillator, the LifePak 500. His latest contributions include designing a solution for post-disaster automated structural damage assessment in Japan.

Dr. Elabbady holds a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from Purdue University, USA, and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA.
