IDB Provides US$ 325000 Relief Aid to The Philippines and Somalia

29.03.2012, Jeddah, KSA – In line with Islamic Development Bank’s humanitarian efforts at times of natural disasters, the IDB distributed US$ 100,000 worth of relief aid to the residents and the Munira School in Southern Philippines which recently suffered losses during flood. IDB had earlier provided US$ 200,000 to the same school under its grant assistance program for educational institutions in non-member countries with a minority Muslim community. In coordination with the Arab doctors Union
and Somalia’s Zamzam Charity Institute, the Bank provided medical equipment worth US$ 150,000 to hospitals in Somalia. Earlier, IDB had purchased modern equipment worth US$ 150 thousand for hospitals in Somalia. During 2011, the IDB contributions to support draught relief in Somalia reached US$ 3.5 million. Part of this amount was spent on rehabilitation of water wells and provision of medical equipment. IDB had signed two agreements with Arab Doctors Union for sending in medical teams to remote
areas in Southern Somalia.
