IDB President Addresses the Inaugural Meeting of Global Alliance Partnership in International Development in Sarajevo
Dr. Ali, who was addressing the Inaugural Meeting of Global Alliance Partnership in International Development (GAPID), which was held in Sarajevo, Bosnia Herzegovina on 23-25 June 2007, explained that GAPID is in full harmony with the new vision of the IDB Group, added that "this is an all embracing mission that extends far beyond the goal of providing financial products and services for development projects".
In trying to fulfill such a comprehensive mission "IDB Group cannot work alone or with a small number of partners, it has to favor and promote all possible forms of cooperation among all parties that have the capacity and the willingness to make a contribution in development" he said.
Dr. Ali outlined three main areas where the IDB Group can contribute to the fulfillment of the laudable objectives that GAPID aims to achieve. Those areas can be boiled down to the establishment of an enabling environment for the private sector in IDB member countries, financing of projects and programs based on a partnership between the public and the private sectors and intra-investment and intra-trade within its constituency.
It is worth mentioning that the Global Alliance Partnership in International Development (GAPID) is a multi-stakeholder think-tank and partnership platform to accelerate development programs in developing countries and marginalized communities. It is seeded by a group of leaders and practitioners representing intellectuals, entrepreneurs, development institutions and community leaders.
