IDB Group to Organize Day in Brunei Darussalam

Jeddah. KSA, 10.09.2014 – The capital city of Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, is to play host to Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Group Day on 17 September, 2014.

The event, to be held at the Empire Hotel & Country Club, is being organized in collaboration with Brunei’s Ministry of Finance; the Center for Islamic Banking, Finance & Management (CIBFM) and the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI), the research and training arm of the IDB.

Minister of Finance II at the Prime Minister’s Office, Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Rahman Bin Hj Ibrahim, will be the guest of honor at the event which is expected to engage with stakeholders from the country’s private and public sectors including government entities, investment authorities, the Central Bank, financial institutions, local banks and academia.

The program is expected to focus on a wide array of topics such as strategic framework for IDB Group, resource mobilization, Islamic economics, as well as the latest socio-economic development status in South East Asia. IDB Group entities will showcase their achievements on the sidelines of the event. The program of the Day will also include a lecture on "Islamic Finance and Economic Development: Lessons Learnt" which will be delivered by Professor Rodney Wilson, the IDB Prize laureate in
Islamic Banking and Finance 1435H/2014G. The IDB Group regularly organizes similar events in its 56 member countries to enhance awareness over its activities and operations and advance cooperation with the local and regional private and public sector entities and investors.

Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali, IDB Group President will lead a senior delegation to the event. The IDB Group is committed to supporting development efforts of the Government of Brunei Darussalam which joined the Bank in 1986. It is expected that the IDB Group entities (ICD, ITFC, ICIEC and IRTI) will explore potential initiatives in the areas of advisory services, development of Islamic financial sector & knowledge sharing, etc.
