IDB Group Delegation leaves Jeddah to Attend UN-sponsored Meeting on Somalia
28.09.2011, Jeddah, KSA – A special delegation representing the Islamic Development Bank Group will attend the 20th Meeting of the International Contact Group on famine-hit Somalia. The meeting, called for by the United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), is to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, chaired by UN Secretary General’s Special Representative Augustine Mahiga on 29 September, 2011.
The two day event will focus on the Kampala Accord aimed at bringing peace and stability to Somalia and the implementation of the Road Map outlining the priority tasks to be accomplished within the coming 12 months.
Since the start of the current emergency situation in Somalia, the IDB Group has dispatched three emergency missions to the drought stricken areas to assist and oversee the implementation of the Bank’s emergency relief operations distributing US$ 2.2 million worth of food and medical supplies as well as relevant services amongst thousands of Somali women and children affected by the drought.
