IDB approves US $609 million for new development projects

Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 27 September 2016 – The Board of Executive Directors of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) approved US $609 million for new strategic water, power, agriculture, roads, education and health projects.

The Board approved funding the following projects:

• US $348.7 million for the Flood Protection Dam Project in Oman to protect the capital Muscat from flooding
• US $78.5 million for the Agricultural Entrepreneurship Development Project in Senegal
• US $50 million for the Triconboston 150MW Wind Power Plant Project in Pakistan
• US $37 million for the Expansion and Reinforcement of the Electricity Network Project in Burkina Faso
• US $35.3 million in supplementary financing for the Tirana-Elbasan Road Project in Albania, a strategic project to which IsDB has already contributed US $222.7 million
• US $33.2 million for the Rangpur Division Agriculture and Rural Development Project in Bangladesh
• US $15 million for the Post Ebola Health Sector Support Project in Guinea
• US $10 million for the Supplementary Financing for the Health Systems Strengthening Project in Suriname
• US $280,000 in a technical assistance grant for the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources in the Republic of Tajikistan
• US $990,000 in the form of five grants for five educational and training projects for Muslim communities in the Non-Member Countries of Cambodia, the Central African Republic, Ghana,
Sri Lanka and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

The approvals came during 314th meeting of the IDB Board of Executive Directors which took place from 24 to 27 September.
