Dushanbe, Tajikistan, 21.05.2013 - The 290th meeting of the Board of Executive Directors of the Islamic Development Bank has approved US$ 461.7 million to fund various development projects in member countries, as well as several educational projects for Muslim communities in non-member countries.
The meeting at Kokhi Somon Palace, chaired by IDB President, Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali, during the 38th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, approved other projects as well; US$ 205 million as the Bank’s contribution for the third phase of social development projects in Indonesia, US$ 170 million for upgrading airlines capacity in Uzbekistan and US$ 32 million to a road project in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. The Board Members also approved a US$ 20 million
contribution to a road project in the Republic of Kosovo as a partial implementation of a decision of the Board of Executive Directors last year, endorsing a total of US$ 40 million to support efforts aimed at rebuilding Kosovo.
The Board Members further approved grants of US$ 480 thousand for educational projects in Tanzania, Tobago and Trinidad and USA. They also agreed to extend the implementation period of the scholarship program for both male and female students from Guinea Bissau, and female students from the refugee camps hosting refugees from the Sudanese region of Darfur; a project whose total cost stands at US$ 2 million.
The Board of Executive Directors of the Islamic Development Bank continues its meeting and deliberations until the end of the 38th Annual session.
