Dr Al Jasser Helds Bilateral Talks with Guyana’s Minister of Environment
Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, 7 November 2022 - Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) President and Group Chairman, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser hosted HE Vickram Bharrat, Minister of Natural Resources for bilateral talks ta the IsDB Group COP27 Pavilion in Sharm-el-Sheikh.
At the meeting, Dr. Al Jasser expressed his sincere appreciation and gratitude to the government of Guyana for the enduring collaboration and partnerships since the country joined the Bank in 2016.
The two leaders deliberated on the status of ongoing projects in the country in key priority sectors, such as transport, energy, social sector, capacity building, and reverse linkage.
On his part, the Minister appreciated the continued support of the Bank to the country’s development noting the recent approval of $200m financing to support the Lynden Soesdyke Highway Project as a testimony to the growing cooperation between the Government of Guyana and IsDB. This project will significantly enhance the competitiveness and connectivity of the country.
The Bank is successfully implementing the construction and rehabilitation of the small hydropower plants in the Moco-Moco and Kumu areas. The project will support a sustainable power supply with an improved share of renewables in the country's energy mix.
