Coordination Group Proposes to Make Development Cooperation more Effective
Jeddah, KSA, 24.06.2014 – A seminar on “Managing for Development Results” organized jointly by the Coordination Group (CG) (comprising 10 institutions), the OPEC Fund for International Development and the IDB Group on the side lines of the 39th Annual Meeting of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) deliberated on the various aspects of key commitments on development cooperation agreed at the Busan and Mexico conferences and discussed the way forward towards making it more effective and thus
implementing the global commitments made by these institutions.
The Seminar highlighted the development assistance delivered by the CG so far and showcased country experiences on managing for development results from Cote D’Ivoire, Malaysia, and Uganda. The case studies depicted the importance of better management of the development process, knowledge and technology transfer, and south-south cooperation opportunities for cross-border learning.
Success stories from various sectors comprising the Tran-Sahelian Network in Africa, Earthquake Rehabilitation in Pakistan and Water supply in Oman shoed the importance of partnership which enabled them to deliver results.
During the closing remarks, the IDB Management reiterated its continued commitment to towards making development cooperation more effective through partnerships and joint action with the CG, the OECD-DAC, the MDBS, the UN and other multilaterals and bilateral towards achieving the MDGs.
The Seminar was attended by around 200 participants from the OECD-DAC, Representatives of Co-chairs of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) from Mexico and the Netherlands, delegation from JICA/Japan, Heads of the ACG Institutions, IDB Board of Directors and IDB Board of Governors, and other delegations from the member countries and international organizations.
