Albanian Deputy Finance Minister Discusses Promotion of Cooperation with IDB Group
12.03.2012, Jeddah, KSA – Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali, President, IDB Group, on Sunday welcomed Mr. Nezir Haldeda, Albania’s Deputy Finance Minister and Governor for IDB, at the Bank headquarters.
Accompanied by a high ranking delegation comprising Albanian Prime Minister’s economic Advisor and Deputy Labor Minister, Mr. Haldeda commended IDB Group’s development participation in his country underlining the Albanian government’s appreciation for the IDB Group and the government’s desire to enhance the cooperation.
Dr. Ali emphasized the cooperation between Albania and IDB as manifested in the numerous development projects in Albania mainly in the transport, farming, power generation and rural development sectors.
During the meeting the officials discussed the progress made on IDB funded development projects in Albania particularly; the 27-kilometer road connecting the capital Tirana to Elbasan. The IDB Group has allocated US$ 223 million for the road which also includes construction of a 2.2 kilometer two way tunnel.
The Republic of Albania joined the IDB in 1991. The Bank has so far provided US$ 433 million for various development projects in the country. The visit by the Albanian delegation is scheduled to include intensive business meetings with different IDB Group entities, namely; the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD), Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment & Export Credit (ICIEC) and the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC)”.
