12.11.2011, Jeddah, KSA –The Saudi Project for Utilization of Hajj Meat (ADAHI) operated by the Islamic Development Bank on behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has set another record of utilizing more than one million heads of livestock during the Hajj season 2011.
According to Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali, President, IDB Group, the project within three days that it operated during the Hajj this year saw nearly a million sheep and 2430 cows and camels utilized after thorough inspection by the veterinarians and Sharia’a experts. “Distribution of the utilized meat began since the early hours of the day of Eid amongst the Hajj pilgrims in Mina and the holy sites and as well as the needy”, explained Dr. Ali adding that 150,000 utilized sheep and 433 cows were distributed until today. The task of distribution shall continue in the coming weeks through land and sea in 27 different destinations outside the Kingdom through 330 charity organizations as per the distribution plan for the year 2011.
The President expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the Crown Prince and the government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their continued support for Adahi, the environment friendly project which serves the Hajj pilgrims and contributes to the cleanliness of the Holy Sites.
The Saudi Project for Utilization of Hajj Meat has been in place by the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since the year 1982 and distributed more than 15 million heads of livestock amongst the needy around the world up to the end of Hajj season 2010.
