8th Conference on Islamic Economics and Finance to be held in Qatar
18.12.2011, Doha, Qatar – President of the Islamic Development Bank Group, Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali and Qatar Central Bank Governor H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Saud Al Thani will be among the keynote speakers who will address the 8th conference on Islamic Economics and Finance to be held at Doha, Qatar, during 19-21 December, 2011. The theme of the Conference is “Sustainable Growth & Inclusive Economic Development from an Islamic Perspective”.
The Conference is expected to bring together economists, central bankers, senior professors, and researchers from over 35 countries presenting some 130 research papers in numerous fields including; the efficiency of Islamic banks, institutions and markets, methodology and scope of Islamic economics; effects of Islamic principles on fiscal and monetary policies; access to financial services in Muslim countries and the progress of OIC member countries with respect to the UN Millennium Development
Goals.
The event is co-organized by the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS), the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) of the Islamic Development Bank, the Qatar Central Bank, the International Association for Islamic Economics, and the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Conceptualizing the theory and practice of contemporary Islamic economics and finance through research and intellectual dialogue, the first Conference was held in Makkah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1976 under the auspices of King Abdulaziz University.
