IEvD Launches Thematic Evaluation of IsDB Climate Change Policy and Implementation
Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 11 February 2026 – The Independent Evaluation Department (IEvD), as per its Annual Work Program for 2026, launched the thematic evaluation of IsDB’s Climate Change Policy, Action Plan, and Interventions over the period 2019-2025. The launch workshop brought together nearly 50 participants, notably from Regional Hubs and the Resilience & Climate Action Department. The goal was to collect feedback from all relevant stakeholders to refine the evaluation plan.
Approved in 2019, the IsDB Climate Change Policy aims to embed climate action within IsDB’s core mission and help Member Countries pursue resilient, green, and sustainable growth. A preliminary review indicates that from 2019 to 2025, climate related projects totaled USD 8.84 billion, with annual approvals increasing markedly and exceeding USD 2.4 billion in 2025. In 2024, IsDB obtained accreditation from the Green Climate Fund, signaling a strong commitment to play a leading role among multilateral development banks in supporting international climate action.
The evaluation will assess implementation performance and the extent to which the Policy and Action Plan has delivered intended results across Member Countries. It will include case studies in eight Member Countries, namely Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Senegal, The Gambia, the Kyrgyz Republic, Indonesia, and the Maldives.
The final report is expected to be presented to the Board of Executive Directors in the fourth quarter of 2026. The findings will inform the forthcoming IsDB Green Strategy and future climate-related interventions.
