Dr. Waleed Addas
Dr. Waleed Addas manages the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Regional Hub of Rabat, Maghreb Region viz, Algeria, Mauritania, Morocco, Libya and Tunisia.
In his capacity, Dr. Addas overseas country assistance & partnership strategies, the development of the annual operations plans and three-year project pipelines and oversees portfolio performance in the region spanning more than 100 development projects valued at USD 6.5 Billion.
Dr. Addas joined the Islamic Development Bank in 1992 in the Operations and Projects Department and later in 1999 was assigned to head the IsDB Regional Office in Kuala Lumpur-Malaysia and there he activated IsDB financial products as well as representing H.E. the President, IsDB in a number of high-level international meetings/symposiums in South-East Asia.
After his successful stint, Dr Addas was appointed in 2003 as Chief of Programs and Portfolio Monitoring at IsDB headquarters overseeing the Operations Complex annual operations plans, work programs/budgets and portfolio monitoring when IsDB at the time joined the COMPAS group with other MDB's.
Before joining the Rabat Regional Hub in 2021, Dr Addas was appointed in 2016 to head the Lives and Livelihoods Fund (LLF) -a five-year $2.5 billion concessional Trust Fund comprising development cooperation partners [the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, UKAid/the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (DFID), ISFD, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, the Qatar Fund for Development] targeting least developed member countries in specific development interventions that aim at fighting infectious diseases and restoring sustainable livelihoods.
In addition, Dr. Addas appraised a number of private sector projects and participated in various business development, trade and investment, and technical co-operation program activities as well as in policy development initiatives for IsDB member countries.
Before joining the IsDB, Dr. Addas commenced his so far 36 - year work experience as an Economist at the Saudi Ministry of National Planning and Economy, the Saudi Industrial Development Fund and later was seconded from the IsDB as Director of Finance and Administration/Acting Secretary General to the International Energy Forum, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
