Islamic Development Bank Funds the Palms Geriatric Facility in Georgetown, Guyana

Georgetown, Guyana, 30 May 2024 — The Islamic Development Bank has awarded a grant funding of US$291,200 to the Government of Guyana, facilitated through the country’s Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.

The funds have been earmarked for the procurement of essential resources aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents at the Palms Geriatric Facility.

The grant funding has been instrumental in acquiring much-needed assets, including buses to facilitate transportation, wheelchairs to improve mobility, tablets for interactive engagement, sewing machines to foster skill development, and vital medical equipment to enhance healthcare services at the Palms Geriatric Facility.

Guyana’s Ministry of Human Services and Social Security has expressed gratitude to the Islamic Development Bank for their commitment to supporting initiatives that directly impact the well-being of the country’s elderly population as these resources are expected to significantly contribute to improving the overall living conditions and care provided at the Palms Geriatric Facility.

The investment in buses ensures that residents have access to reliable transportation, promoting community engagement and participation.
