KLCoE Visits Academy of Science Malaysia and the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 12 January 2024 – A delegation from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Center of Excellence in Kuala Lumpur (KLCoE), led by the Head of KLCoE, Mr. Samer Elesawi, visited the Academy of Science Malaysia (ASM) on 12th January 2024. The visit was received by the Chief Executive Officer of ASM, Mrs. Hazami Habib.
ASM is a statutory body in the Malaysian government, established under an act of Parliament (Academy of Sciences Malaysia Act 1994). The Academy is the highest scientific advisory body in Malaysia and reports under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI). It serves as the ‘Think Tank’ of the government on matters related to science, engineering, technology, and innovation and to pursue excellence in the fields of science, engineering, and technology.
During the visits, both sides had the opportunity to exchange views and ideas to support the development of IsDB Member countries through STI. Among the potential areas of collaboration being discussed are joint research and, Halal and Affordable Vaccine for IsDB MCs. ASM has also expressed strong interest in collaborating with IsDB to support the capacity development of IsDB Member Countries in the areas of Fintech, Agritech and Healthtech.
On another occasion, KLCoE also visited the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC). The visit was received by the Group Chief Executive Officer of MGTC, Mr. Ts Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor.
The visit aimed to understand the role and function of MGTC in supporting the nation’s green economy. ‘Energy Efficiency’ is one of the key identified areas of collaboration that both parties discussed intensively. IsDB Member countries may benefit from the expertise of MGTC through a training program ‘Certified Energy Managers’, which can be considered under the Technical Cooperation Program (TCP).
MGTC is an agency of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Sustainability mandated to drive the country in the scope of Green Growth, Climate Change Mitigation and Green Lifestyle.
