KLCoE Participates in the 10th World Halal Summit

Istanbul, Türkiye, 13 December 2024 The 10th World Halal Summit (WHS) 2024 was organized by the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) and the Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT) under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye. The representation of IsDB at the Summit was led by Mr. Samer Elesawi, Head of KLCoE, and Mr. Zafarjon Khotamov, Senior Halal Industry Development Specialist.

With the theme “A Decade of Halal Success: Uniting Vision, Shaping the Future,” this event offered a unique platform for engaging with academics, researchers, industry stakeholders, professionals, and policymakers in the global halal ecosystem. IsDB’s participation was aligned with its strategic objectives of promoting halal practices and enhancing economic opportunities among member countries.

The Head of the KLCoE delivered a special address during the session on "Halal Economy: Challenges, Opportunities, and Global Trends." In the address, he pointed out one of the primary challenges in the Halal industry is the lack of a unified global standard, in which this fragmentation created significant hurdles for producers and consumers alike, complicating the intra-trade among IsDB Member countries.

He also highlighted the rise of digital technologies integration in the Halal sector. From blockchain verifying Halal certification at every step of the supply chain to artificial intelligence in Halal banking, the intersection of technology and traditional Halal practices is creating a new landscape for growth and development. His address was then followed by expert presentations and discussions, including KLCoE presentation delivered by Zafarjon Khotamov.

At the sideline of the WHS, KLCoE also conducted meetings with several partners, among others: Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT), Halal Accreditation Agency of Türkiye (HAK), Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), and Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries (SMIIC). The discussion with the respective partner organizations centered on the potential for collaborative efforts to strengthen the halal industry ecosystem and bolster halal food security initiatives.
