KLCoE Delegation Visits Malaysian Ministry of Energy Transition & Water Transformation to Explore Collaboration
Putrajaya, Malaysia, 8 January 2025 – A delegation from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB)’s Center of Excellence in Kuala Lumpur (KLCoE), led by the Head of KLCoE, Mr. Samer Elesawi, undertook a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA). The visit was received by the Secretary General of PETRA, Dato’ Mad Zaidi Mohd Karli.
PETRA is a new ministry established in December 2023 by the Government of Malaysia, mandated to spearhead the country’s transformation on energy transition and water. They are the leading agency in sustainable and inclusive governance of electricity and water supply in ensuring the nation’s wellness.
During the visit, the discussion centered around exploring potential engagement through the upcoming Country Engagement Framework (CEF), among others:
- Partnership to support Energy Transition, Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Water related initiatives
- Capacity building programs for corporates, potential buyers of carbon offsets. Develop Shariah frameworks on Carbon Markets and programs for stakeholders to deepen carbon markets in Malaysia and other IsDB MCs, including the ETS, VCM, carbon tax and other carbon pricing mechanisms
The discussion also touched on potential investment and IsDB financing through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) for Energy Transition and Water Transformation sector in Malaysia.
