IsDB KLCoE Explores Collaboration with Securities Commission and Key Stakeholders in Islamic Social Finance

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 6 October 2023 – Islamic Development Bank (IsDB)’s Center of Excellence (KLCoE) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, continues the discussion with key Malaysian stakeholders in identifying strategic cooperation in the Islamic Social Finance landscape.

A courtesy visit was mounted on 27th  September to the Securities Commission (SC), and was received by Madam Sharifatul Hanizah Said Ali, Executive Director of Islamic Capital Market. The fruitful discussion concluded with a proposal to sign an MoU between the IsDB and SC in formalizing the intended cooperation in the area of Islamic Social Finance.

Also, a promising cooperation within the capacity development agenda surfaced during the discussion with the Association of Islamic Banking and Financial Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM), in which the visit held on 26th September was received by Madam Ratna Sha’erah, its Executive Director.

furthermore, In a meeting with the Group CEO of Malaysian Development Bank (BPMB), Mr Roni L. Abdulwahab on 4th October, the two parties reiterated the commitment to explore more potential areas of collaboration, while continuing the existing on-going initiatives particularly on Waqf, and a ‘Training Program on Evaluation’ for the staff of BPMB.    

Moreover, During the International Greentech & Eco products exhibition & conference Malaysia (IGEM 2023), which KLCOE attended the Opening Ceremony, the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof whom officiated the event, highlighted ‘Malaysia’s Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR) that was launched recently, that will push the country to the forefront of energy transition and enabling Malaysia becoming a regional leader in the renewable energy (RE) industry.

On 6th October, KLCoE received a delegation from the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) led by Mr. Johan bin Matthieu Vanhaecke, Manager-Digital Exports. The visit by MDEC aimed to explore new collaboration opportunities with KLCoE in the area of digitalization of Halal Industry and identification of market access into IsDB Member countries.

In addition, the Malaysian External Trade Corporation (MATRADE), represented by its Senior Director, Mr. Mansor Shah Wahid also visited KLCoE with the same capacity to explore specific areas of collaboration for 2024, focusing on promotion of trade among OIC countries.
