As part of the Islamic Development Bank’s eagerness to support its Member Countries in addressing the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, H.E.  Dr. Bandar Hajjar, IsDB Group President held virtual meetings with member countries to discuss their needs to confront the pandemic and its implications, in addition to providing them with the necessary assistance to support their efforts to contain COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Hajjar conducted a virtual meeting with H.E. Sooronbay Jeenbekov, President of the Kyrgyzstan, where he announced US$ 11 million funding to Kyrgyzstan to contain the pandemic, noting that the IsDB Group Corporations are discussing how to provide more assistance to achieve food security and support small enterprises in the country.

The President of the Bank also met, virtually, with the Minister of Development, Investment and International Cooperation in Tunisia announcing the provision of US$ 279 million from IsDB Group to Tunisia to face the crisis. Dr, Hajjar met also with Sardor Umurzakov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan, where he announced US$ 143 million from IsDB Group to the country to support its efforts to face the pandemic.  

The President of the IsDB Group  met with H.E. Ibrahim Elbadawi, the Sudanese Minister of Finance and National Economy to announce US$ 35 million to assist Sudan in overcoming the pandemic. A virtual meeting was also held between Dr Hajjar  and Mr. Amadou Hott, Minister of Economy, Planning and Cooperation of Senegal, where he announced US$ 162 million from IsDB Group to help  Senegal to overcome the pandemic.

In the same vein Dr. Hajjar met on Thursday, with H.E Abdulaziz Al Bahi, Minister of Economy and Industry of Mauritania, and discussed with him the repercussions of the crisis and the medical and economical needs of Mauritania to fight the disease, where he announced an urgent support to the country amounting to US$ 33 million.
